Engaging Communities

Ready to create change in your community?

There are two parts to Live 5-2-1-0: awareness and action. Sharing the Live 5-2-1-0 message increases awareness, however, supporting the message is also necessary.

The key to the success of Live 5-2-1-0 is getting the entire community on board and involved through partnerships with local decision makers, who influence and shape the environment in which children live, learn and play.

Evidence has shown that this approach works – similar community engagement programs such as those in Maine and Massachusetts have resulted in positive changes in children’s health. And while it’s a proven approach, we know that every community is unique – so it’s essential that local knowledge and leadership are what guide the process.

The Live 5-2-1-0 Community Road Map

The path to sharing and supporting Live 5-2-1-0 successfully is not a straight line – the process looks a little bit different in every community. However, there are some important common steps that need to happen in every community.

SCOPE has developed a Live 5-2-1-0 Community Road Map that describes these necessary common steps, and provides guidance to those interested in bringing Live 5-2-1-0 to the broader community in which they reside.

The Live 5-2-1-0 Community Road Map, embedded below, outlines adaptable approaches for engaging and empowering local decision makers, based on best practice and the experiences shared with us from other Live 5-2-1-0 communities. The Road Map is formatted as a Prezi presentation, which you can click through to explore (be sure to select full screen for best viewing, and click through until the right-hand arrow along the bottom turns grey. If embedded Prezi does not work in your browser, view via this link: http://prezi.com/i9bmbnwdzb9b/).

A copy of the Road Map slides in PDF format can also be downloaded here.

We encourage communities to review the Road Map together with their local partner groups, so that they can use it to help guide collaborative community plans. We have also developed a Live 5-2-1-0 Community Road Map Worksheet which can be used to help community partner groups identify their priorities and form a plan based on the process and steps outlined in the Road Map.
