Privacy Policy: Live 5-2-1-0 App
Who We Are
Live 5-2-1-0 is a simple, evidence-based message to help kids and families adopt healthy habits. We know that hearing a consistent message supported by a healthy community environment is important. By bringing community stakeholders together to share and support this common message, Live 5-2-1-0 helps build partnerships and create healthy environments where kids can eat well and be active every day. Live 5-2-1-0 is an initiative of BC Children’s Hospital. The Live 5-2-1-0 Central Team partners with communities across the province to improve practices, policies, and environments so the healthy choice is the easy choice for kids and families. We respect the privacy of every individual who uses the Live 5-2-1-0 App (hereinafter referred to as the “the App”. Live 5-2-1-0 takes great measures to ensure the privacy and confidentiality of any personal information collected through the App. Personal information collected from you will only be used in accordance with this Privacy Policy. This Privacy Guideline informs you of our activities regarding the collection, use and disclosure of information we collect about users of the App.
By using the App, you agree that you have read and understand the privacy practices and consent to us collecting, possessing, using, and disclosing your information in accordance with this Guideline.
Data Collection
We collect the following types of information about users of the App:
1. Personal information
You may give us information about yourself when you use the App, including your chosen display name, age, assessment responses about healthy behaviours (fruits and vegetables intake, screen time, physical activity, consumption of sugary drinks, sleep), goal completion progress, and the rewards you select and redeem. Entering personal information like your name is optional. We recommend the use of a nickname. We do not knowingly collect any personal identifiable information such as your full name, date of birth, or contact information.
2. Usage and analytics data
When you access the App, we may automatically collect certain information including a non-personally identifiable random universally unique identifier (UUID) and other diagnostic data. While the App does not automatically collect your device’s operating system information, information from the App Store/Google Play downloads will contain it and will be made available to us. To help us understand, improve, and enhance user experiences, we may track in-app events in a non-personally identifiable fashion to gather information and analyze your use of the App.
If you wish to stop all collection of information by the App, simply uninstall the App using the standard uninstall process for your device.
Information Use
We may use the information collected about you for the following general purposes:
- To provide, maintain, and improve the App; to perform technical operations; to allow you to participate in features of the App; and to detect, prevent and address technical issues.
- Research and analytics: To analyze user interactions with the App, including monitoring and analyzing usage, to understand the effectiveness of existing product features; and for other research and statistical purposes.
- Legal compliance: as permitted or required by law.
Disclosure of Information
We may disclose your personal information in the good faith belief that such action is necessary for the following purposes:
- Purposes disclosed in this Guideline: to fulfill the purposes of collecting information as outlined in this Guideline.
- Legal requirements: to comply with a legal obligation; to protect and defend the rights, property or safety of BC Children’s Hospital; to prevent or investigate wrongdoing in connection with the App; to protect the personal safety of users of the App or the public; to protect against legal liability. In such cases we reserve the right to raise or waive any legal objection or right available to us.
- Research: information that is aggregated, generalized, and de-identified (data with information that could identify you removed) may be disclosed to the public or interested stakeholders, such as health researchers, physicians, and patients, to evaluate the reach and effectiveness of the App in addressing healthy behaviours, to improve the App, and for other statistical and analytical purposes. We may publish or present this information but will not include any information that could identify you.
Data Storage
All information collected by the App will be stored in Canadian cloud storage services hosted at BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute. Industry standards and organizational measures will be used to protect and prevent unlawful processing, damage, or use of personal data.
Security
We will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that your data is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Guideline, and that no transfer of your personal information will be performed unless there are adequate controls in place including the security of your data and other personal information.
The security of your data is important to us, but unfortunately, the transmission of data over the Internet is not completely secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal data, we cannot guarantee the security of your information transmitted to our App. We will use strict security features and procedures to prevent unauthorized access to your personal data once we receive it.
Changes to this Privacy Guideline
We may update our Privacy Guideline from time to time. Any changes we may make to our Guideline in the future will be posted on this page. Please review this Privacy Guideline periodically for any changes and updates.
