Live 5-2-1-0 Playbox How-to Guide
Our partners in Abbotsford, with support from Live 5-2-1-0 and the City of Abbotsford’s Parks and Recreation Department, launched an innovative initiative to help kids be more physically active—the Live 5-2-1-0 Playboxes! In October 2014, three Playboxes were installed in different city parks, each stocked with outdoor play equipment such as balls, nets, hula hoops, and frisbees, along with information and ideas for fun, active games. Families could access the boxes anytime for free by signing up on Abbotsford’s website to receive an access code to unlock them. These Playboxes made it easier for kids and families to follow the Live 5-2-1-0 guidelines by providing free, convenient access to equipment and inspiration for active, outdoor play together.
Over the past 10 years, Live 5-2-1-0 Playboxes have appeared in more than 20 communities across British Columbia. To support this growing network, the Live 5-2-1-0 Playbox How-to Guide has been developed, drawing on the insights and experiences of Playbox Coordinators. The guide serves as a valuable resource for communities with existing Playboxes, as well as those interested in learning about the installation process. It provides essential logistical information and answers frequently asked questions about this community-driven initiative.
Please be aware that the Live 5-2-1-0 Central Team is not currently able to support the installation of new Playboxes. That said, we invite anyone interested in the concept to explore the Live 5-2-1-0 Playbox How-to Guide, which provides comprehensive information and step-by-step guidance to help communities take the lead in implementing a Playbox on their own.
